My maternal grandmother, Myrtle Dempsey Ryan, died of a ruptured appendix when my mother was about 10. When she was 13 my grandfather remarried a woman named Fannie. My mother called her fannie and I called her 'Grandma Ryan'. When I was eight we visited them for the last time before we moved to California. On that visit I got in trouble because I called her Fannie instead of Grandma. My response to my mother was that she called her Fannie, why couldn't I. So, do your children call you Ruth and the grandkids call you 'Grannie'?

From the left, Ann-Marie and Paul. Lee and Mary. The ladies are grade school/high school/church friends of Margie's. Lee and I were in the Navy together. All of these people are incapacitated in one way or another. All they wanted to do was drive and eat. Not get out of the car and do. I may not go anywhere with them again...At least not for a week long trip. I was going nuts. Paul is hard to take as he is so opinionated and ultra right conservative.

FROM APRIL 2009 TO OCTOBER 2009 WE HAD 16 DEATHS IN THE CLUB. ONE WAS ESPECIALLY HARD FOR ME. JOEL FLATHER, HE AND HIS FIRST WIFE WERE VERY KIND TO ME WHEN I FIRST MOVED BACK TO THE EAST COAST. BOTH WERE GO FRIENDS. I SAY AND SPOKE TO HIM ON THE DAY HE HAD HIS HEAD TRAUMA. 2 DAYS LATER THEY UNPLUGGED HIM AND LET HIM GO. HIS POST FUNERAL WAS ATTENDED BY ABOUT 550 PEOPLE. buying a house in Florida, NO WE HAVE HAD SOME UNEXPECTED EXPENSES. SO THAT WELL WAIT. have you had any fun lately, NO WHAT A DULL LIFE. what's on your mind, JERRY what worries you lately. WELL JERRY IS GOING IN THE HOSPITAL FOR ANOTHER OPERATION. SAME THING TO TRY TO GET THE WOUND ON HIS BELLY TO HEAL. THEY ARE GOING TO CUT OUT SOME OF THE MESH FROM THE HERNIA. HOPEFULLY IT WILL BE A IN AND OUT OPERATION.

SHE HAD A BAD BIKE ACCIDENT AND SHATTERED HER RIGHT ELBOW AND UPPER ARM. SHE IS IN SURGERY AND WE WON'T HEAR FROM HER UNTIL SHE COMES OUT OF IT. THIS WILL BE BAD. HER TIME DIFFERENCE IS 12 HOURS SO IT WILL BE HARD TO COMMUNICATE. I'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. I SAW THE OKTOBERFEST PICS. THAT WAS A NICE TOP YOU WERE WEARING...BUT THEN YOU ALWAYS DID HAVE A NICE TOP. He has been stay home more because Irene his wife was diagnosed with breast cancer a couple of months ago. DAMN! AND HOW IS BOB? Brother Bob is the same as he was 50 years ago. He is in pretty good health he is now 74 years old. Brother Rick is in good health also. Good Ameil/McEldowney genes I guess. Brother Bob is the money maker of the family and brother Rick is the land baron.

The Fire department arrived around 7:00 o'clock just when we were having a cocktail hour. Firemen cleared the building. They had there sniffer with them It showed some hot spots. I guess normal for around coolers. They went through the whole build. they found nothing. Just as they were leaving it started to smell again. They found the stack to the furnace down stairs had a hole in it. and with the wind we were getting, was causing a back draft. About 7:45 everyone came back in and started the Oktoberfest.

I thought he said he was through with big competitions. His buddies in Pensylvania called and asked him to row with them at the Head of the Charles race next weekend in Boston. He and Joy were taking their Emory University crews up anyway so what the heck? Joy will row on Saturday in a four and Jody will row in the Championship Eight race on Sunday. Go figure. He couldn't have gotten that competitiveness from me, could he? Looks like you are in for some cold weather. Snuggle up...Monday morning, He called last night. Said it started snowing just as he left the start line. His boat/crew came in 17th out of about 38 boats. he was experiencing mild hypothermia at the finish. He'll be home today. He's home now, lost his wallet, dry clothes, phone and Ipod. Supposedly they were picked up by team mates and put in the trailer to come back with the Emory boats. He had a hard time getting on the plane with out ID. WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY SNOW IN TIVERTON. BUT WATCHED THE FOOTBALL GAME AND THERE WAS A LOT OF SNOW. GO PATRIOTS

It's in the Herald now. I saw it today she passed on June 20th how sad. I am heart broken. Two friends that I grew up with. I guess my turn will be coming along. Gee its a bitch to get old. I received this email from Betsy's Daughter "Ruth - This is Hallie, Betsy's daughter and I'm afraid I have some bad news... Betsy passed away two weeks ago. I've just gotten into her email to see if there were any of her long distance friends that hadn't heard the news and saw your emails to her. The new general manager is quite good on some things he has a lot of new and good ideas for the club. He can't run a wedding for beans and that goes for other such functions. DID YOU LIKE ARUBA? HOW LONG DID YOU STAY THERE? Yes we really enjoyed it are first time down. There wasn't many resorts then and it was nice and quiet. It is a desert island. The second time we went down, It had become a tourist trap. Resorts all over the place. One good thing they did allot with recycling sea water so every thing around the resorts are lush and green. Bad thing on the east side of the Island they put in a big I mean BIG prison. That house criminals from all the different Island. The weather is still great hot with a nice trade wind so you don't realize that you are getting burned.

This was at a Halloween party at The Moby Dick Rest another placed that I work for quite awhile. The guy standing be hind me Charlie Silvestere was killed at a bar. He was sitting at the bar having a beer and the Jewerly store that was next door being robbed. The thief took a shoot to scare the clerk and it went through the wall and hit chalie. HMMMM. SAD STORY.

YOUR SHIRT LOOKS LIKE SOMETHING THE BICYCLIST WEAR. When Jordan started his second year at GaTech, he was a resident advisor in the dorm. They gave him that shirt to be recognizable. He couldn't stand it so he gave the shirt to me. I wear it on the river so I can be seen lying on the bottom. LOL! GOSH YOUR SON IS TALL. OR HAVE YOU GOT SHORTER? We put out here to drain the kayaks and relax for a few minutes. there is a fisherman wading upstream. IS THIS RIVER FAR FROM YOUR HOUSE? DO YOU KAYAK OFTEN? Not as often as I would like but I never go alone. If you go over it can get dangerous real fast. think of it this way, how long can you hold your breath? I may be getting to old to do this here. We are going down to Jekyl Island this month and I plan to rent a sea going kayak to cruise the marshes. Hope I have another camera by then.

The corner joint is called a through mortise and tenon. It's one of the things I like to do. When they are right, they are very strong. I would rather do these than dovetails. THE FRAME IS REALLY GREAT LOOKING GOOD WORK. YOU DO TAKE PRIDE IN YOUR WORK. I told you I was a pretty good woodworker.

GEEEEEEEZ YOUR HOUSE LOOKS HUGE. It is big, about 4500 SF of heated space. When we move it will be to a smaller house. Margie's dad was a contractor. Every house she lived in was never quite finished. She's very paranoid about that. It's the one thing she nags about if I work too slow on something.

This was mind numbing work to do. I don't want to do any more like this...fitting 144 or more corks DO YOU WANT SOME CORKS LOL No thanks, I have enough corks to fill a small pickup bed. Part of what made this tedious is that I placed all the lables on the corks so they could be read.

Jordan is finishing his master's degree so he can begin teaching high school physics next month. He's pretty sure he is going to be hired at a new high school in the Alpharetta area. Joy will be going back to her same high school in Alpharetta. This will be her sixth year teaching.

When Amy was a little girl, she had a Wonder Woman swimming suit that she wore all the time in summer. This is her Wonder Woman pose. When we went to a winery tasting room, they would have these signs up urging people to have a designated driver (Skipper).

Many SUVs and pickups have roo catchers on the front and we saw lots of roo roadkill. this little guy was an orphan at a "petting farm". He was holding Judy's hand so tenderly.

Almost all restaurants and pubs have you go up to the bar and order your meals and drinks. Then by some mechanism, the numbered sign here, they bring you your meals and drinks. The minimum wage in WA is about $20.00. So, nobody tips the servers.
